Wow, what an amazing reading experience! I gave the last review only 3 stars and mentioned maybe Kennedy was running out of material, but he certainly redeemed himself in this book! I read it in 2 nights, the only reason I stopped was to get some sleep and work, but once caught up and well over half way through, I could not wait to finish! I admit, I am partial to jungle adventures because there is so much to contend with, such as Mother Nature, local militia, not to mention local inhabitants, and Kennedy used all 3 and added more on this jungle adventure, as only could happen to Acton and Palmer, or would it be just The Acton's, now? I don't think that would work, but I hate it that I questioned J. Robert Kennedy running low on material because this book would make a great blockbuster movie, along with half of the other Acton adventures, so thanks for a great book, and another night of lost sleep, because when reading most of the Acton books, I tend to lose sleep, but get to enjoy a great read instead. Keep them coming, and for the next Acton adventure, batters up because I can't wait to get started. I can get plenty of sleep when I'm dead.Product details

Fantastic as always!! J. Robert Kennedy knows how to write a tale that keeps you turning pages into the wee hours of the morning. The pace is always breakneck speed, which leaves me exhausted, but totally satisfied when finished reading.
His characters are so well developed & if you have been reading from book 1, as I have, you will know each & everyone of them & love them all as well. He does not waste a lot of time in description of how these characters met each other, nor on fluff, actually, no time wasted on fluff, just straightforward storytelling.
I'm running out of things to say about Kennedy's books. I really like this author. I like his characters. He doesn't write fast enough for me. If you like action books with a sense of humor, buy his. Start with book one and read through them in order. Also read the Dylan Kane books, again in order.
This takes place in the . It involves the local native tribes and how some people are taking advantage of their isolation. There are a couple of native heroes to go along with Kennedy's usual list. One is male, the other female. I really liked the respectful way he treated these two characters.
After the first paragraph I almost decided to not read this book. I thought it was going to be a sci-fi book which I don’t really like. I’m so glad I kept reading. The story was great, the characters good, and it ended up being a wonderful book.
I don't know how he does it but Kennendy keeps you turning pages into the wee hours. After 10 books in the series you would think that the series would soon come to an end, but he just comes up with exciting plot after plot! At first I thought I wouldn't like the book ( really, how many times can Laura get kidnapped?) but some how you are taken on a wild chase through the . He brings back my favorite character BD to help save the day and I always look tor the Jaguar jokes. Best of all, Kennedy puts out a new book before you forget the details of the last. Can't wait for the next. How about James & Laura save BD next time.
The story begins with Acton and friends on a boat in the . Soon Laura Palmer is taken captive, the group gets help from a tribe of people that have had contact with the outside world, and discover some military group is up to no good in the . There wasn't the plot twists I have come to expect from Mr. Kennedy's novels and I missed the connection to ancient events the other books of his that I've read have. A decent story, but not nearly as good as others in the series.
This is an amazing story that is totally different from any of the other James Acton books. Yes there is action, familiar characters and groups carrying over from previous ones. But, and here is the kicker there is no lost treasure to be found! And that doesn't matter.
If you are fans of Acton and Palmer, you will also love it. If not, you should absolutely read it.
This is not the first (or even 10th) time I have lost sleep thanks to the Acton series and I am quite sure it won't be the last - especially since I just downloaded The Riddle and plan to start it right after I submit this review!
But I digress.
Burning is yet another wonderful installment in the Acton series. It is a true testament to the author's skills that the ideas, characters, writing style, etc. never become boring. Sure, it's a little hard to believe that these two professors could manage to end up in so many predicaments but if you can suspend that disbelief, you will be well-rewarded. The books are researched and timely (sometimes published right before a related event occurs - as the author touches on in the afterward of this book). Of all the Acton books, the subject matter of this one (native tribes in the ) is probably the most out of my personal interest areas. If there was any book in the series I was prone to dislike it was this one. Despite this, I loved every minute of it and couldn't put it down. It's so nice to stay with a series through ten books and NOT be let down. Thanks for another great novel, JRK!
